Wheels Against The Wind is a historical record of the 20 amateur multi-day road cycling tours of the Manawatu run by Palmerston North Amateur Road Cycling Club from 1962 to 1981.
“I thought it was one of the best races in the country. I first won it on 1974, and then rode every other Tour up to 1981, only missing the Tour in 1980. For me it was the build up tour after winter training and single weekend races. I loved the cross-winds and I had some of my best sprint finishes ever down Rangitikei street.
The Tour suited me if I could get over the hills. It was the best race to guage your form two weeks before the big one! The Dulux 6 day!”
Jack Swart, The Master of the Manawatu Tour, Winner of 5 Tours.
