Le Race offers stunning and some tough Tour de France-type climbs with a fantastically fast descent into New Zealand’s own slice of France. The views from the top of Gebbies Pass and the two Summit Roads are breathtaking in every sense of the word. Kieran describes this as his ‘fatal attraction’ ride. He’s done it as an event tree times; each time being fitter than the last and each time hitting the wall spectacularly – and when you blow on this ride you really blow. The last 25 km are severely testing, and the category 3 and 4 status of the last three climbs belie the fact that there are really a series of brutally steep pinches linked by long drags with moments of downhill respite in between.
