History is brought to life in this celebration of the Taranaki Round the Mountain Classic cycle race.

A BSA bike with wooden rims ridden in the inaugural 1911 Round the Mountain race.

For a century, cyclists have tested their mettle in this hundred-mile race around the majestic cone of Mt Taranaki. New Zealand's longest-running race, the mountain circuit has been a prestigious yardstick for top amateurs and professionals to compare themselves with past and present champions.

1935 scratch bunch. From left: Spence Weir, Bill Pratney, Mannie Snowden, Bill Lamberton, Lloyd Thomas, Harry Watson and Les Stevens.

Collected here, along with race memorabilia and photographs, are stories of sweat, tears and nail-biting finishes, broken bikes, coveted prizes and the early triumphs of cycling legends.

Amateur rider Stuart Williams wins in 1989.
